With the conclusion of the general chapter, the general superior of a religious institute sent a copy of the report of the state and life of the institute to the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life in accord with canon 592 §1. The following is the reply from the Prefect of that Dicastery.
CONGREGAZIONE PER GLl ISTITUTI DI VlTA CONSACRATA E LE SOCIETA DI VlTA APOSTOLICA
His Excellency, _____, has forwarded news of your election and the periodic Report prepared by your predecessor, Sister to this Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. Please extend our thanks for the report to Sister _____.
I take this opportunity to offer heartfelt congratulations to you and to the members of your Council. The mission entrusted to you is a most important one. Your task has both institutional and inter-personal dimensions. During your term of leadership, you will be called upon to make important decisions regarding the religious life and work of your sisters and the corporate commitments of your institute. In carrying out this service to your community, making decisions well-grounded in a prayerful discernment and the fostering of a spirit of communion must be priorities.
Pope John Paul II's call to a deeper level of holiness in Novo Millennio Ineunte is particularly challenging for those who have committed themselves, through a special consecration, to witness to Christ's presence in the world. Starting Afresh from Christ, the Instruction published by the Congregation in May 2002, places a particular emphasis on the need for a renewed spirituality and re-commitment to the ideals of the founding charism. A good deal of your time and energy as congregational leaders should be devoted to animating and encouraging your sisters to accept these challenges as well as others which they encounter daily.
This Dicastery was pleased to note the various initiatives being taken in the area of vocation promotion and in your programs of ongoing-formation. These two areas are indeed areas which merit careful attention in order to insure the future effectiveness of the institute.
May the Lord abundantly bless you, the members of your council and all the members of your Congregation as you seek to continue your mission of serving the Church in the rich Franciscan tradition.
Sincerely in Christ,
Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, Response of the congregation to a general superior’s report on the state and life of a religious institute, 2006, Private, CLSA, Roman Replies and Advisory Opinions, 2006, 17-18.
